Rachel Carey

Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Children’s Health

I am a paediatric occupational therapist with twenty years of experience working with children and their families. I qualified at the University of Cape Town and completed my community service in Pietermaritzburg, before gaining further experience in the United Kingdom, where I worked in both paediatric brain injury and community paediatric occupational therapy.

For the past eleven years, I have been living and working in the Ballito and Salt Rock community, supporting children across a range of developmental needs. Over time, my practice has become increasingly focused on children with emotional and sensory regulatory difficulties, particularly highly sensitive children.

I draw on a diverse and integrated skill set to support regulation, engagement, and development, and I am a certified DIR/Floortime practitioner. I also offer the Integrated Listening Safe and Sound Protocol as part of my therapeutic approach.

A central part of my work is partnering closely with parents and teachers. I am deeply passionate about sharing knowledge and empowering caregivers with practical strategies to better understand, support, and advocate for their children. I believe that meaningful, lasting change happens when the adults in a child’s world feel confident and equipped, and I see parent and teacher training as an essential part of my role.
